MAGNESITE
MgCO3 makes up the chemical structure of the Magnesium Carbonate mineral known as Magnesite. Magnesite often develops during the metamorphism or chemical weathering of carbonate or magnesium-rich rocks.
Large quantities of Magnesite are burnt to make magnesium oxide: an important refractory (heat-resistant) material used as a lining in blast furnaces, kilns and incinerators & in the steel industry. Magnesite is also utilized in ceramic industry as a backwash application.
